IN COLLABORATION WITH MELTA KELANTAN CHAPTER
Date : 15th of August – 5th of September 2021
Venue : Online
Organised by: Faculty of Language Studies and Human Development (FBI), UMK and
MELTA Kelantan
Target groups : Students from primary, secondary and tertiary levels
OBJECTIVES
The workshop has achieved its objectives, with a large number of submissions received for both categories (vlog & storytelling). Through their involvement, the participants have also shown highly fascinating work with great dedication.
TARGET GROUP AND ATTENDANCE
EEC invited primary and secondary school students across Malaysia, as well as UMK students, to participate. This programme, which included two competitions; vlog and storytelling, has gathered 144 total entries, with 33 (vlog) and 111 (storytelling), in which the more popular category was the storytelling.
ACTIVITIES / PROGRAMMES JOURNEY
EEC was officially launched on August 15, 2021, when registered participants started submitting videos of their vlog and storytelling recordings.
Entries were closed on August 26, 2021, to allow the jury time and space to evaluate all of the videos submitted by the participants. The judging took place between August 29 and September 2, 2021.
On September 5, 2021, the list of winners for each competition category was announced on EEC website, along with their photos.
IMPACT OF THE PROGRAMME
This programme provided more English exposure to UMK students as well as students in other education institutions in Malaysia through casual and entertaining activities. It also contributed to increase the awareness among students that learning English is not limited to classroom contexts, and inculcate the English language culture among UMK residents outside of class time. Finally, conducting this kind of programme in collaboration with MELTA Kelantan Chapter could also be one of the platforms to further introduce UMK and FBI to the public throughout Malaysia.
