The objectives of this workshop were successfully met. Prof. Zuraidah Mohd Don has been invited to this workshop to share her knowledge and provide some ideas that may assist the FBI's English teaching staff in developing a well-balanced syllabus. Prof. Zuraidah Mohd Don has built a balanced academic profile, which helps the institution (Universiti Teknologi Malaysia) fulfil its 'third mission' to the local population, notably in early education. Her research interests include Pragmatics, Discourse Analysis, Corpus Linguistics, Language Structure, and English Language Teaching. Throughout the session, she thoroughly examined and assessed the elective course syllabus, providing observations and suggestions for improvement in English IV courses namely, UBI 10402 (Intensive Communication Skills), UBI 20302 (Integrated Reading and Writing) and UBI 20402 (Academic Reading and Writing). Prof. Zuraidah had emphasised on the alignment of Course Learning Outcome (CLO) with the The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) descriptor when creating the syllabus. The CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) is a global standard for describing language proficiency. It uses a six-point scale to describe language ability, ranging from A1 for novices to C2 for those who have mastered a language. This session was designed for all English lecturers and teachers in the English Language Unit, Faculty of Language Studies and Human Development. This workshop introduced them to strategies for developing a more prosperous and efficient curriculum. It also provided the teaching team with more exposure and insight into syllabus preparation as well as assisted them in better understanding on how to create a more effective and efficient syllabus.
